While I was going through some of my pictures on my computer, I noticed that one of the folders was titled "Easter Weekend Surfing 2007." I thought that was quite a coincidence because I was planning on today's blog being about just that, only for 2008. Yes, Adam is that crazy. He and his friend Justin drove an hour and a half yesterday so that they could surf. You have to realize this is Michigan, and it was (thankfully) in the 30's, and spring this year brought about 7 inches of fresh snow. We are less then 15 miles from Lake Michigan, yet they had to go an hour and a half to find perfect waves. When surfing the lake, apparently, the good spots move up and down the (lake) coast depending on the wind patterns and pier positioning. I didn't go with the guys this year to take pictures. Unless it's close to our beach here, I stay home. They don't take surfing for granted, they spend the entire day in the water and then come home and pass out. It's nothing like the ocean. You might only have good waves for a few hours before they die out or get too blown out. So you have to get as much of them as you can when they are good. I'm anticipating the warmer weather so that I can join them. I like the smaller waves and warmer water that late spring offers.

Adam waxing his new surfboard he bought Friday. (I wonder how Adam's mom will feel about him doing this on her living room floor?)

This picture was taken last year on Easter weekend. (Justin and Adam)
Walter seemed thrilled about the new snow. He ran, jumping and sprinting through the yard, he was even eating the snow.
Notice the snow all over his face from throwing snow up while he ran around.

He looks like he wants to pounce on something. I steered clear. He has a tendency to jump on people when he's really happy.

Here is a picture of the shoveled sidewalk, you can see how deep the snow was even after it had a day to settle down.

Are wet suits that insulated that they keep you warm in the frigid water? Adam should live in Southern CA so he could surf 12 months a year.
Walter seems to be much better.
It is sunny and crisp here in Southern New England but too cold to be outside without a fleece jacket on.
Happy Easter!
Really looking forward to meeting your mother for dinner tomorrow night!
Hmm, snow and surfing, does seem like a crazy combo. We're due for some snow today over on the eastern shore of MI. It's just not right -snow on Easter!
Have a happy one!
Tina,
Adam doesn't need to move to CA to surf year round, he does that anyway in MI, snow and all. Apparently the only thing that seems to put a hold on it is when the lake is frozen. Crazy, I know.
I always worry about Adam when he goes surfing. I'm glad you didn't go. I think it is way to dangerous. I like Walter's sweater. Did you make it for him? Remember how you made a maternity sweater for Myra? I miss Myra. I was just telling Bob today, that I would sure like to have another poodle. He said, "when you retire." Doesn't sound like I'll get one too soon. Hope you are having a happy Easter.
Now that you jogged my memory, I think this is the third Easter in a row we've had snow.
I don't like to get into Lake Michigan until July. It's too cold for my taste even in June. Adam is a special breed of CRAZY! :)
Walter's sweater is pretty cute, I agree.
Walter's sweater is just a t-shirt. He hates it. Tina, what are you doing in my moms town, just on vacation? That's exciting that you guys get to meet. My mom will have to take pictures so that we can all see you, put a face to a name. Don't worry about Adam, he's a great swimmer. His wet suit is designed to fill up with a thin layer of water, your body heat warms it up and you stay toasty warm. When I went with him one winter day, I felt like I was sweating, I had to pull on the neck of my wetsuit to flush cold water in just to cool off. You stay really warm, that day it was probably 40 degrees, thats really warm though for winter. The bad part is when you get out of the water and you have to take your stuff off, you really freeze then, and thats why I won't go; I just can't handle the 20 min. of being wet and cold, and waiting for the car to warm up. Especially when it's in the teens, THATS cold!
Your mom has to be in MA on business and my girlfriend (She has heard all about your family and wants to meet your mom.) and I are meeting your mother in MA about an hour from my house for dinner at a historic restaurant from colonial days. We are so looking forward to meeting tomorrow.
I've always heard that the wet suits keep you warm once the water is heated from your body but that initial dip in must be a killer! I can't imagaine what it's like coming out of the water and peeling off the wet clothes and drying to dry off and get in warm clothes waiting for the car's heater to crank up.
It looks so pretty there with all the snow. I like looking at it, from inside.
Spring is in full bloom here, daffodils, tulips and the gorgeous almond and cherry trees in bloom...I should have taken some pics to show you. I am sure you remember what it looks like.
Hope you had a nice Easter.
