Last weekend when we were out on the lake tubing I got water shoved into my ear from falling off. It was really painful for only a day, but it so kindly left me with limited hearing, ringing and dizziness in my left ear. I called my sister Lori first, she is an ER nurse, and it was her birthday too, so two birds with one stone. I asked her what they would do for me if I went to the ER complaining about water in my ear. I don't remember what she said, but I must not have been very impressed, because I called Rachael, (my other sister who is a doctor) as soon as I got off the phone with her. She told me to put a heating pad on my ear for the pain, and take sudafed for the water. Sounds pretty clever right? Sudafed would certainly dry out my sinuses, and that's close to my ears. But I must not have been very impressed with her answer either, because today I went to a doctor over here on my side of the state. Guess what she told me? Take some sudafed twice a day until the water goes away.
My sister's husband says he has to go to a "real" doctor whenever he gets sick. They usually always tell him the same thing that my sister told him. Maybe she really is a REAL doctor.

How's your ear now? Much better I hope.
There is a few people in our family who have requested Rach's medical opinion and then go to another doctor anyway only to get the same advice. I am happy to say that I am not one of them. Maybe if Rach charged you all for her expert medical opinion you might not take it for granted.
I love the box on the store with your name on it. Can you make me one?
I am doing much better, but I love sudafed/claritin; no wonder you can't buy it unless you're 18 or with a prescription. It makes me feel awake when I know I should be tired! My ears are still ringing a little more today, must be the swirling of the water "flushing"...:) I really should have mentioned at the bottom of my post however, that both Rach and Lori are really great to have around for their medical expertise, I would have taken Rachael's medical advice over some doc I don't know but I really wanted someone to LOOK in my ear so that I could rest assure there would be no permanent damage, and she lives too far away.
Glad to have confirmation that I know what I'm doing! :)
This post is too funny!
Cecelia,
I agree.
That's fuuny, I'm pretty sure I've done the same thing... but there are many times that I call you for advice and I treat it as LAW, so that's always good.
