Why did I do that?

Do you remember when I posted about the lazy guy that begs for money off the freeway by my house, and how I can't stand beggers? Well, I still don't like him and I don't think he's homeless OR hungry. But I DID have a little change of heart today for a begger. I know...I'm turning into Santa Clause. Have I mentioned how much fun I was going to make of Christmas this year? There was an old lady, well, she wasn't that old, but she was old to me. She looked so cold, and there was snow everywhere. She didn't have a hat on, and her gloves looked about as insulated as gardening gloves. I hate to say this, but she looked kinda like a younger, sadder, toothless version of my grandma Annie... Wait, she's toothless too. (But she's supposed to be, she's old.) I think that's why I took pitty on her. For once in my life I had cash on me, thanks to an early Christmas. When I handed her the money, I said "normally I would tell you to get a job, but you actually look really cold." That was kinda mean, huh? Saying it now I kinda think it was. But that was me being nice. Let's just say, if she IS a con, she still deserves the money, because she walked all the way there, and then she stood out there for who knows how long. That's a much harder job than what I do everyday, if you ask me. I can't even stand outside long enough to let Walter go potty. I have to wait inside and watch him through a window. Now all I can think about is... I hope she really wasn't homeless and has somewhere warm to sleep tonight.

I think of you whenever I see a beggar now! We were up in the city at a stop light and we saw one with a sign that said: "to sick to work." We had a mini-school session as we critiqued the spelling of the first to (too). I cracked up when a minute later while we were still at the light, the beggar turned the sign around to show some other message. I guess feigning sickness wasn't working well enough.

The first time I gave food to a homeless person was at Christmastime. I think it is the season that gets to us!

Looking forward to seeing you guys. Mike wants to know if Adam is taking his toys.

Hope she isn't homeless too.

I'm getting older but I have my teeth.

Remember, we never know when we are entertaning angels. That is what I always tell myself when my heart softens for someone.
That was very kind and sweet of you, but then, you have always been that way to me.

I'm a sucker for homeless/sad/lonely/cold/poor people. I always give them money. (And I feel horrible if I don't.) Derrick does too, which is kinda funny (but in an endearing way) coming from such a right-leaner.

I feel the same way you do about homeless people, most of them are just lazy and it's an easy way to make some cash. But sounds like this little lady played the part well if it was an act. The old part is what got you, I have a soft spot for old people.
And just for the record, Grandma Annie has very nice dentures. If you didn't know you'd think she had perfect teeth.

That was very sweet. Today when I was standing in line waiting to check out at the grocery store, I should have done something, but I didn't think about it until it was too late. There was an older lady and her adult son that were buying groceries and they didn't have enough money, so they had to leave a dozen eggs and a couple cans of mushrooms. I should have just slipped them the money so they could have bought those few items, but I didn't think about it soon enough.
