Another Accidental Exercise

With this new diet challenge I have going with my mom and sisters, I have to keep up with my exercising. Lately my ankles have been hurting really bad when I run. I have an old exercise bike in the basement I can use to help relieve some of the stress, but that's really boring. I decided to give swimming a shot. So I put my wet suit and boots on and hopped in the lake. It was really creepy. I haven't been in the lake since last summer and I didn't have a brave husband with me to jump in first. I have only seen a few brave soles on the lake yet this year, and they were skiing, pretty sure they weren't planning on falling in. I took Walter with me; he loves to bite at splashing water, so I was kicking water at him, he lost his balance and fell in. Walter can't swim that well, and it's still a little cold not to be in a wet suit, dog or not. Walter of coarse panicked. It was too deep for me to touch the bottom, the dock is in three pieces and drifting loosely in the water because the ice broke the hinges off, and there was no way I was going to swim him to the edge of the lake; that was too far, and there is a barrier wall, so it could have been deep there too. The accidental exercise took place while I struggled to tread water, hang on with one hand to a high, hard to reach dock while pushing Walter's butt with the other hand. Him and I were hanging on OK, but our bottom halves were floating under the dock, it was very tricky getting him out of the water, and he had to practically walk on my face, but we managed OK. He should be embarrassed to admit he has lab in him! He probably couldn't swim to save his kitty's life. He falls in all the time in the summer because he loves to jump onto his tube, but there is always someone on the dock to pull him out. When I finally got him out of the water and pulled myself onto the dock, my heart was racing SO fast, I felt like I had sprinted a mile. Maybe I'll wait for Adam to be home next time I get in the water.

This is Walter from last summer in his life jacket, it's a lot easier to pull him out of the water when he falls in with the nifty littly handle you see on the back. Money well spent.
Just so that no one thinks I'm crazy, I had a boyant wet suit on and an intertube; and my neighbors on either side of me were both out on their docks, so I wasn't swimming alone, I just had to get Walter out of the water alone.

Natalie, that lake is to cold got you to be in by yourself. I know where a good townie is you can ride on. Keep doing good.

This is advice for a mom (aka former swim instructor/lifeguard). Please don't swim alone.

Poor Walter. He sure is accident prone. Turned out OK for him as you were there to get him out.

What were you thinking, going swimming by yourself? You are crazy to do that. Please be more careful.

Don't worry, I had a thick wet suit on, I was REALLY boyant, and an intertube, the neighbors on both sides of me were also on their decks, I wasn't alone, just alone to get Walter out.

Whew, I feel better knowing that the neighbors were out on their decks. Why didn't they help you get Walter out.

Cecelia - Our motherly minds were thinking alike.

Hope when you have real kids they wont be as accident prone as Walter. I bet he is glad to know his momma is a lifeguard.

Soooo glad that was you, not me! I'm looking out on the Moscow River as I type, SO glad I've never had to get into *that* water. I can only image how yucky it must be! (Sure looks pretty, though...)

Oh, I checked out your latest pottery--GORGEOUS. Made me want to knit a sweater to use those buttons... You are so talented! Where did you learn to do that?

And in response to your question on my blog--the "to go" cups at the Moscow Starbucks look just like the ones in the US.

Hey, could you e-mail me? I had a question I wanted to ask you off-line. tamara221 at hotmail dot com

Natalie, I can't believe the luck, or unluck, you have with that dog. I thought I was the only one that had clumsy pooches.
BTW...you would love riding the Townie...it is the mercedes of all bikes. Well, that is just my opinion.
